Lavender season starts
Forget France. Walking in fields of Lavender has never been so close.
New Oak Ranch in Ojai begins its annual u-pick lavender season on June 19 - July 31 on Saturdays and Sundays.
Among the organically grown lavenders you pick yourself are Grosso (most aromatic), Provence (for culinary use), Hidcote (garnish) and Buena Vista (retains its color). Oh yeah, and they grow olives, tangerines and walnuts, too.
If you like crowds, you can always hold out for the Ojai Valley Lavender Festival on June 26 where the whole region gets in on the harvest.
