Trench is French!

Only in jolly old England (hence here) is the compost bin a big deal. If you don’t have one or don’t want one, you can still compost like the French do, in a trench.

It’s easy. Compost one area of your garden at a time. Do this by digging a trench as long as you want and a foot deep. Leave the excavated soil nearby. Then simply throw your compost materials into the trench, cover with a shovel of soil, and keep filling and covering as you move down the trench. French tip: top off the mound with a nasturtium seed.

When your trench is full, move a row over or to another area of the landscape that needs composting.
