This year’s red carpet tomato

Tomatomania and their cult-like following are celebrating the BEST tomato of 2011: Meet Vorlon.

Okay, so it’s got a sci-fi name, heirloom for parents and a homely appearance. In a year that is considered crummy in tomato-growing circles, Vorlon out-performed, out-tasted and still hasn’t stopped producing compared to every other tomato that the Tomatomaniacs grew.

Lesson: Always keep an eye on the geeks. And make a note for next year.

It looks interesting.  My favorite is still the watermelon beefsteak.  I still have some ripening on the vine in mid-October.
