The Super Duper Snail Zapper

What’s your favorite snail fix? Over the fence, in the street, the Ziploc bag routine? Maybe you use sprinkles and baits instead. But even if you don’t worry about dogs, there are always the chickens. Mine will eat anything as will the ground-dwelling backyard birds that visit.

You could try this instead—eliminate snails and slugs with the super-duper snail zapper. Take a empty hand-held spray bottle and fill it with half part household ammonia and half part water. Adjust the nozzle to stream.

Wake up extra early and get outside while snails and slugs are still active and give them a good squirt. It’s not pretty—they turn a pea green sizzle before…you know.

Don’t worry about the ammonia harming your plants. After all, Jerry Baker recommends ammonia as lawn food and I’ve been using my snail zapping recipe for years on all kinds of plants.

What’s your favorite way to eliminate snails?
