March 18, 2009Seeds of change
Times are a changing according to the Mailorder Gardening Association. Sales are up, way up, and business is booming even in a recession. Americans are buying seeds and starter plants in record numbers. Good news for companies like Harris Seed who’s sales have grown 40-percent. Wood Prairie Farm sells seed potatoes and organic vegetable seed and says their sales are up 30-percent on top of the 20-percent growth last year.
Economic uncertainty is part of the picture, when the going gets rough we grow our own. But you also have to consider the foodies. Food is huge and homegrown just plain ol’ taste better. To get your gloves on all kinds of seed click the Mailorder Gardening Association link above to sign up for any kind of catalog you can think of.
Click here to get your hands on these beauts: Hudson Valley Seed Catalog is selling some of their seed in art packs - seed packs designed by local Valley artists. The seeds are heirloom varieties, the packs are keepers. Decoupage anyone?
