So Jim McCausland slaps up a post yesterday on Sunset’s blog Fresh Dirt about his favorite natural history web sites and I’m already addicted to whatbird.com.
You’ve got a certain bird singing the same old song outside your window. Not sure what the bird is, but you also know you’ve got House finches, Yellow-rumped warblers, Bewick’s wrens or what-have-you passing through when you’re paying attention. You plug your possible bird into the search bar, click on search, scroll down and on the left you get a handy audio.
What’s more you get a slide show, the backstory, range map and more. Pretty much an online field guide with goodies.
Did you know that a group of warblers is called a bouquet? Me neither.
