February 21, 2011Planting technique #47
If you’re like me you’ve been tempted too many times by a pretty pot of Bleeding Hearts. And the thing about them is is, they despise the transplant process.
But there is more than one way to trick a plant. In the case of Bleeding Hearts, plant the plant with its pot.
In other words, simply sink the whole pot in your garden soil a little above the soil level. BHs won’t even know they’ve been transplanted and you’ll have your fancy flowers for more than a few seasons.
P.S. Bleeding Hearts are summer dormant in Southern California, so don’t let that scare you off.
