February 17, 2010May the bluebird of happiness
find your friggin bluebird houses after, what, two years?
It’s bluebird season and some people, like Sheri Henderson who puts together the Mary Lou Heard Memorial Garden Tour, already have nesting birds in their brand-new boxes.
Don’t have a box? Pitch in. Bluebirds were in serious decline in the west until people like Dick Purvis provided nesting boxes for them. Bluebirds are desperate. Often Purvis will get bluebirds flying into his boxes while he is lifting them into a tree to install them.
Find out about bluebirds here. Find DIY plans for bluebird boxes all over the web. If you buy a box, try to support one of the various organizations that spend countless hours monitoring bluebirds in your area.
Oh yeah, the Mary Lou Heard Memorial Garden Tour - they’ve got a casting call out for gardens.
whatever
