Harvesting hydrangea

I think many gardeners pick theirs too soon. If you want big colorful papery heads of hydrangea inside, the time to pick them is now while the blooms are still in color but mostly dry.

Even though the shrubs look horrendous, don’t prune them back too severely, either. Chances are yours have already developed their flower buds for next year and those will be near the branch tips.
