March 19, 2009Hard to get color lime green
The euphorbias are blooming and their hard-to-get color, lime green, is certainly eye-catching in the gardens that have it. Check out this blooming euphorbia “something-something” (Wulfenii perhaps?) in the front of the picture, you can hardly look at anything else.
Euphorbias (sounds like you-forb-bee-ah) are easy to grow poinsettia relatives. Most of them reseed prolifically about the garden. It’s simple to tug out the ones you don’t want, but why would you want to? They find the most charming places to grow. Euphorbia = plant one, get many, even in dry conditions.

This just in
According the the New York Times, the Obamas have agreed to plant a vegetable garden at the White House, the first vegetable garden since Eleanor Roosevelt’s victory garden in WWII. Michelle says it’s most important role will be to educate children about locally grown food. Plus, she adds, the entire family, including the President, will pull weeds. We’ll see about that. Anyway….read all about the original campaign to plant a garden on the White House lawn at Eat the View.
Pssst! Don’t forget tomato sales this weekend!
