Get thee to the gourd festival

Love the porch? Yes. Can I have it? No.

Love the vintage furniture? Yes. Can I have it. Probably no.

Love the green gourds in the foreground? Yes. Can I have those? Why yes!

If I get myself to the Welburn Gourd Festival in Fallbrook and buy all the gourds I can carry. Or at least 3 really big ones. What’s more, I can make a day of it with gourd art, gourd music and food to munch on. And so can you.

Welburn Farms organically grows, harvests and dries hard shell bottle, canteen, pear, tear drop, round, tall and jewelry gourds. You can buy them cleaned or uncleaned, up to you. You pay by size (diameter).

You won’t need to do anything with your gourd except rub them down with shoe polish, but you’ll notice that the gourd artist there go the whole nine yards with some really intricate designs.

When: June 27 and 28
Where: Click here for directions (they can be confusing)
What else: $11 at the door, $8 per person in advance

Whatever

Reuters - Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper got “flamingoed” for his 50th birthday. You know, pink flamingos all over his lawn.
