Frost

Proof that leaving the seed heads and old flowers on your plants through the cold months has its own appeal. From heavenuphere on flickr.

Diane Haugen says:

Leaving the seed heads on plants all winter is particularly important in Zone 3.  The birds can find edible goodies on these stalks most of the winter.

And here, in the spring, by the time the snow melts, the seed stalks have pretty much fallen over by themselves.

After all, let’s not waste our valuable gardening time doing something nature will do for us.

...I love the look of frost in the garden.  I read once long ago that waiting ‘til Spring to cut back your perennials and shrubs lends ‘‘architectural interest’ in the garden during Winter when covered with frost or snow.  And it does. :o)

...Thanks for sharing the link!  Now off to take a peek.

...Blessings :o)
