Fall color for warm climates

Just like you, I’ve grown quite a few plants in my life. One of my more recent favorites is Itea. Not only does it look superb in the spring with its weird, white flowers—in the fall it colors up real nice, even in warm weather.

Also called Sweetspire, don’t expect it to look like much in its nursery pot. In the garden it is a well-behaved shrub that takes care of itself in full sun. Fresh green in the spring, then come the flowers, then the red and oranges in fall. Monrovia Nursery says “shear to shape”. I’m pretty sure I haven’t even done that in six years.
