But do like the idea of re-purposing a patio umbrella to grow your legumes on.
What you might not be able to see in the small picture are the eye hooks screwed into the joints of the umbrella frame. Then string is strung and secured near the soil with garden stakes.

When I saw this on the Laguna Beach Garden Tour, I thought it was an old fashion clothesline. It reminded me of one of the kind I would see on occasion in my childhood. However, I think you’re right. Gee, I want to go back and look again, loved their garden! Enjoy your Daily Dirt ...Thanks!

So-o-o-o, Jim, you’re suggesting we ADD moles, gophers, voles, etc., to eliminate them? Just learn to live with them? Or perhaps put mothballs in the holes to make those less hospitable? I find dogs to be a good deterrent. Frankly, I’d like a good suggestion to get rid of the skunks that occasionally haunt my garden after they’ve devoured my neighbors’ cats’ food!
