Don’t drink from your garden hose

We have all done it—taken the long, cold drink from our garden hose on a hot day. But I’ve been doing a bit of research lately and it appears that drinking from a hose is not such a good idea.

Most hoses are made of polyvinyl chloride…no big deal except manufacturers use lead to paste the PVC together. Some hoses tested by the Consumer’s Union leach 10 to 100 times the allowable lead levels in drinking water.

Only if your hose is labeled “drink safe”, usually that’s a marine or recreation-quality hose, should you. Who knew?
