July 9, 2009Dan Hinkley again
In the end, it’s all about the plants. Here from the Dan Hinkley Collection at Monrovia Nursery is Disporopsis pernyi ‘Sichuan Jade’. Just for fun say that 5 times.
Dan Hinkley is a notable explorer who tromps around the weird parts of the world looking for plants. Even though his Disporopsis looks like a shrub, it is actually a cousin of Solomon’s Seal, a hardy perennial for the shade. White, bell-like flowers bloom on sprays that stand above the foliage. If you can’t find Monrovia plants at your favorite nursery, ask your nurseryperson to order them for you.
whatever
Smith & Hawken is going out of business. The Mercury News reports that parent company Scott’s Miracle-Gro has hired a liquidator and will cease all business by the end of 2009. The web site is down, sales begin immediately in stores only. Everybody panic.
