August 26, 2009Cineraria from seed
I interviewed Kathie Ferree (Huntington Beach) for a cover story for the Orange County Register. But what I liked most about her garden and couldn’t keep my eyes off of when I was there in spring, were the hundreds of purple Cineraria popping out of her shady beds.
It turns out that she started years ago with a single six-pack of the tall stellata type.
Since Cineraria die back when the weather turns warm, Kathie collects the seed in summer, starts new plants in pots in October, and plants young starts each January.
