Big twig thing at Los Angeles Arboretum

Get up close and personal with this big twig sculpture called Catawampus designed by Patrick Dougherty. Dougherty weaves these installations with saplings to acheive looks like Northern Oriole nest meets McBoo. He believes that like the birds, we used to make our houses this way, and we all have the intrinsic ability to weave. Whatever. Most of us can’t wrap a Christmas gift.

Still, could be cool idea for a kids club if you’ve got lots of saplings on your property and a sharp pair of pruners.

See it at the Los Angeles Arboretum.
