Here’s what happens when you grow up raising greenery in your room and never stop. Patrick Blanc put the roots of his plants in the fish tank and suspended the leaves from the ceiling. Then he became a botanist, then a designer, and used both of sides of his brain to create these, living walls that Blanc installs all over the world.
His technique is proprietary, but the basics are wire trellis first, synthetic felt to anchor roots and then an automatic watering/feed system that mimics a rain forest environment. See the remarkable slide show here.
