January 11, 2012A different kind of garden club
The Seed Library of Los Angeles is a group of gardeners who care about food safety, swap non GMO open-pollinated seed, get together to learn about growing, gather seed at the end of the growing season and return it to the library.
There are 250 members so far and lifetime membership is $10. Members say they participate for different reasons. Either they care about preserving seed for posterity or they’re cheap and don’t like to spend money on seed. Either way, looks like they have fun doing it.

Carol Redhead says:
Saving and sharing seed is a wonderful idea. You might end up with seeds of some plant that someone else grew that you have always wanted, but have never been able to find. Also, it will maintain a source of non-genetically modified seed to compete with Monsanto Corp.
